Lumora Video vs Rotato: device mockup animation or full demo video?
Rotato makes 3D device mockups and animations on the Mac, with a web version for Windows. Lumora Video turns a screen recording or screenshots into a whole product video in the browser. Features, platforms and prices side by side.
Short answer: pick Rotato if the device mockup is the product: hero shots, App Store-style stills, transparent clips for a designer to composite, or anything in 8K. Pick Lumora Video if you need the whole video: a screen recording or a few screenshots turned into a demo with zooms, callouts, captions, title shots and music, in a browser on any computer.
We make Lumora. Rotato details are from rotato.app, its official information page and its pricing page, checked on 28 October 2026.

When Rotato is the better choice
- The mockup is the deliverable: still images, hero shots, or a clip a designer will put into a bigger edit.
- You need transparent video, 8K or a Lottie file.
- You want many device models, or several devices in one scene.
- You would rather pay once than pay monthly.
When Lumora is the better choice
- You have a recording, not a design file. Lumora finds typing, clicks and moving parts in the picture and zooms there, then frames it on a device or a clean background.
- You need a finished video, not a shot. Title cards, callouts that point at the UI, captions from what you say and cuts that land on the beat of the music, in one editor.
- You are on Windows, Linux or a Chromebook, and want the full tool rather than a web version of a Mac app.
- You post everywhere. One edit exports landscape, vertical and square.
- Your coding agent should make it. Claude Code or Codex can create and render a video through Lumora's MCP server.
Using both
Make a device hero shot in Rotato, export it as MP4 and upload it to Lumora like any other recording, then add callouts, title shots and music around it.

FAQ
Is Lumora a Rotato alternative?
For product videos, yes. Both put your screens on 3D devices and move a camera around them. Rotato goes deeper on the mockup itself (30+ devices, 8K, transparent video). Lumora builds the rest of the video around it: auto zoom on a recording, callouts, captions, title shots and music cut to the beat.
Does Rotato work on Windows?
There is no native Windows app. Rotato's own information page says the full app runs on macOS 12 or newer and recommends Rotato Web, a browser version, for Windows and other non-Mac computers. Lumora runs in the browser on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS.
How do Rotato and Lumora prices compare?
Rotato for Mac is a one-time purchase: Basic $79 (phones only), Standard $89 and Premium $199, each with a year of updates. Lumora has a free plan (3 exports a month, 720p, watermark) and Pro at €9 a month. Checked on 28 October 2026.
Can I use a 3D iPhone in an App Store preview?
Not with either tool. Apple's marketing guidelines don't allow 3D renders or animated Apple devices, and app previews may only show what is inside the app. Use a flat look (Lumora's Studio look) for the App Store, and keep 3D devices for your website and social posts. Details are in our App Store preview guide.
